    Microsoft has announced the availability of a software update for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 that will enable consumers to access and enjoy their digital entertainment with greater ease. Microsoft also announced that to date, over 4 million Media Center PCs licenses have sold since the product launched in 2002 – more than 2 million alone have shipped since May 2005!   

    Available immediately via Windows Update download site, Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 will provide several new features, including: 

    ·         Xbox 360 Extender functionality. Customers can seamlessly access digital music, video, photos, and standard and high-definition television and movies on Media Center Edition 2005-based PCs through any Xbox 360 game console in the house..

    ·         Away Mode. Away Mode will bring the convenience, quiet performance and instant on/off functionality of consumer electronics to the Media Center PC.

    ·         DVD changer support. Media Center now offers integrated support for external DVD changers, enabling consumers to watch movies and manage DVD selections (up to 500) from the Media Center interface.

    ·         DVD-burning improvements. Updates to the Sonic DVD burning engine improve the performance and capabilities of DVD burning in Media Center. Now consumers can convert high-definition TV shows to standard definition and burn to a DVD all in one step.

    ·         Additional HDTV tuner support. Update Rollup 2 provides support for up to four TV tuners. Users will now be able to utilize two NTSC (analog) capture boards and two ATSC (digital) capture boards.

    The Media Center PC was invited to attend the X64 Launch for Windows 64bit Edition in Seattle.  This was held in conjunction with WinHEC.  It was a great experience!

    The 2006 Consumer Electronics Show was held in January in Las Vegas.  Once again, we were there.  We've been updating pages and links to bring you the newest and best of products for Media Center PC users.  Use the Events link to the left or click here to start seeing what we found at CES. Manufacturers are producing full-featured models with various configurations to match almost anyone's needs.

    Microsoft announced Media Center 2005 last year.  There are several improvements in the new version as well as many new products to make the multimedia experience the best yet, such as Media Center extenders.

    One of the many innovative new items was the Xbox extender.  For those of us who already own a Media Center PC and an Xbox, this is a great way to use the console for more than just gaming. Click here for more information.     Included as part of Microsoft® Windows XP Service Pack 2 (Windows XP SP2) with Advanced Security Technologies, this free upgrade offers Media Center users a free upgrade to Media Center Edition 2004.
     
    Enabling Automatic Updates will insure that you get SP2 as soon as possible.  SP2, including Windows Media Center PC Edition 2004 will also be available by CD at no cost. To be sure you're ready for SP2, check here.

    To order a copy of Windows XP Service Pack2 on CD, click here - there is no charge for this CD.
